Psychedelics and Trauma: AMA session with Laurin Angermeier
Date
What's inside
A free live AMA on psychedelics and trauma: the benefits, the risks, and how to recognise good support.
Psychedelics and trauma are often talked about as a shortcut. The research and the practice tell a more careful story. The field is largely unregulated, “trauma-informed” is used freely, and many retreats and practitioners lack the training to hold what surfaces. For people with trauma, that gap can lead to retraumatisation. In our next AMA we look at what psychedelics can open up, where the risks sit, and how to recognise good support before, during and after.
The questions we will cover during this AMA:
- What do we actually mean by “trauma”, and why does the word get stretched so far online?
- Why might psychedelics help some people process trauma, and what is happening in the brain when they do?
- When can a psychedelic experience destabilise someone, and what does retraumatisation look like in practice?
- The field is largely unregulated. Who is allowed to call themselves a facilitator, and what does that mean for safety?
- Many practitioners and retreats describe themselves as trauma-informed. What should that label actually involve, and how can you check?
- Why does integration matter more than the peak experience?
- What should someone with a trauma history consider before ever sitting with a substance?
