Not publicly funded: Beslutningsforum rejected Spravato three times between 2021 and 2022, and a 2025 reassessment request was declined. Norway took the opposite path — see ketamine.

The world’s first national public funding of generic IV racemic ketamine for treatment-resistant depression — decided by Beslutningsforum on 25 August 2025, effective immediately. Public specialist service only (hospitals and DPS centres), written off-label consent, registry follow-up; re-evaluation by end-2028. Private clinics in Oslo (Axonklinikken, Synapseklinikken) run legally at roughly NOK 4,250–7,590 per session (programmes NOK 12,750–47,640).

Sativex is the only authorized cannabis medicine since May 2021; anything else needs a physician’s exemption application (godkjenningsfritak) to the DMP, granted to a small patient group. Recreational: illegal; the 2021 decriminalization bill failed, though prosecution practice for users has softened.

One recruiting study — ketamine for combined depression and alcohol use disorder in Tromsø (KeDA). Participation is free; screening is strict; never pay for “trial access”.
