Cannabis Clinic Cardiff

Cannabis Clinic Cardiff (CCC) is a patient centred, clinician led private medical clinic in South Wales that focuses on mental health and comorbid conditions for adults over 18. Hospital consultants with more than 20 years of experience in psychiatry provide assessments and support for people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, eating disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, substance misuse disorder and psychological or behavioural symptoms linked to neurological illness, dementia, menopause and other physical health conditions.

Clinical approach

The clinic offers specialist mental health assessments for people interested in a trial of cannabis based medicinal products (CBMPs). Patients self refer for a free eligibility assessment, then see a consultant psychiatrist who reviews symptoms and medical history and decides whether a CBMP trial is appropriate. CCC specialises in mental health conditions only, within the current UK rules on when CBMPs can be prescribed.

Care pathway

The pathway starts with a free eligibility assessment. Eligible patients book a comprehensive initial consultation with a consultant psychiatrist. If a CBMP prescription is issued, the patient pays the chosen pharmacy for the medicine and arranges delivery. Follow up reviews are required about every three months, again with a consultant psychiatrist, to monitor response and adjust treatment. CCC does not charge for repeat prescriptions between scheduled reviews.

Costs and access

Eligibility assessment is free. The initial consultation is priced at £250 as a one off fee. Ongoing care can be paid via a fixed monthly plan of £33.33 per month, which covers quarterly review consultations, prescriptions and administrative support, letters, and choice of UK pharmacies, or by paying individually for services. Medication costs are additional and depend on the chosen CBMP, with indicative price ranges for THC/CBD oils and flowers given on the site.

Regulatory

Cannabis Clinic Cardiff is a private medical clinic that operates outside the NHS formulary for mental health CBMPs. It is run by Canna Clinic Ltd, company number 13752555, and is registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW Reg: HIW/00944). The site provides policies on complaints and privacy and notes that CBMPs are unlicensed medicines in the UK, prescribed only within current eligibility and safety criteria.
