Erin Gillespie, MD
Dr. Gillespie is a board-certified internal medicine, obesity medicine, and integrative medicine physician with over 15 years of clinical experience. She attended medical school at Creighton University and completed a residency at the University of South Carolina in Greenville. She is now certified by the University of Chicago as a medical writer and editor, translating complex science into clear, evidence-based education for clinicians and the public.
Trained in integrative medicine and nutrition through the University of Arizona Fellowship in Integrative Medicine under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Gillespie blends a holistic view of health with lifestyle, nutrition, supplements, and plant medicine into her work, particularly at the intersection of metabolic health and mental well-being. Her education also includes postgraduate training in mind-body medicine, incorporating advanced somatic and contemplative practices into her writing on stress physiology and resilience. She is also certified in Integrative Nutrition, which allows her to bring a “food-as-medicine” philosophy into her writing.
Dr. Gillespie’s perspective is shaped by international clinical experience, including living and practicing in New Zealand, Chile, and Peru. She also founded a nonprofit initiative in the Amazon focused on bringing healthcare to remote and underserved areas. She enjoys studying the impact of culture and lifestyle on the prevalence of metabolic diseases and mental health issues.
Dr. Gillespie also serves as a board member and volunteer for the American Medical Writers Association, Southwest Chapter, and as the Director of the AMWA New Mexico chapter. She has also authored several journal publications, created continuing medical education programs for medical professionals, authored medical textbook chapters and website articles, edited for one of the largest medical education companies in the world, and served as an expert contributor for clinical AI development programs. She aims to bring scientific rigor, clarity, and empathy to all of her audiences.
