Elios Clinics
Elios Clinics is a UK-based medical cannabis clinic providing prescription-based cannabis treatment for patients with chronic pain, neurological, psychiatric and other health conditions. The clinic emphasises a personalised, patient-centred approach, offering medical cannabis as a complementary alternative when conventional treatments have not been effective.
Service
Elios Clinics offers consultations with licensed and GMC-approved physicians to assess patients’ medical history, symptoms, and previous treatment attempts, and to determine whether medical cannabis (CBPMs — cannabis-based prescription medicines) is appropriate. Consultations can be conducted via telehealth (video) or in person. If approved, the clinic issues a medical cannabis prescription. Medications are dispensed via pharmacies and can be delivered to the patient’s home. The clinic lists conditions they treat including chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, depression, neurological disorders, gastrointestinal conditions, and other chronic or debilitating illnesses.
Elios Clinics also provides ongoing support and follow-up: after initial prescription there are follow-up consultations monthly (at first) and then every three months to monitor response, adjust dosages and manage treatment plans. They offer a patient dashboard for managing prescriptions and appointments.
Safety
Elios Clinics works exclusively with doctors registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), ensuring prescriptions are provided by qualified medical professionals. The clinic evaluates patients’ medical history and may liaise with the patient’s general practitioner to confirm records before prescribing. The cannabis medicines prescribed (CBPMs) are described as produced under regulated conditions, with cannabis plant extracts tested to ensure they are free from contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals, molds and aflatoxins. Elios Clinics also discusses possible contraindications — for example patients with a history of severe adverse reactions to cannabis are excluded.
Care pathway
- The patient begins by completing an eligibility assessment (medical-history questionnaire) and granting consent for medical-record review.
- The patient books an initial consultation (online or in person) with a GMC-approved clinician.
- During the consultation the clinician reviews medical history, symptoms, previous treatments, and discusses whether medical cannabis is appropriate.
- If approved, the clinic issues a prescription; the prescribed medical cannabis is dispensed by a pharmacy. The patient can receive the medication at home via a next-day delivery service.
- The patient receives follow-up care: first monthly after the initial prescription, then typically every three months. During follow-up the clinician monitors treatment response, side-effects, and may adjust dosage or the therapeutic plan as needed.
