Nowomed
Nowomed is a telemedicine platform in Germany that provides access to medical‑cannabis therapy. The service connects patients with cooperating, licensed physicians for online consultations, prescriptions and ongoing care. Nowomed’s core purpose is to simplify and digitalise the process of obtaining and managing medical‑cannabis treatment.
Service
Nowomed offers patients the ability to apply for a medical‑cannabis prescription via an online portal: patients register, complete a medical questionnaire, and upload their medical documentation. If approved, patients book a video (or in‑person, if required) consultation with a cooperating doctor. After a successful consultation, the doctor may prescribe medical cannabis.
Follow‑up care is provided via regular virtual consultations (at least quarterly), and prescriptions can be renewed through the platform. Nowomed also provides a mobile app to support all phases of therapy, including scheduling appointments, follow‑up consultations, and prescription renewals.
Safety
Only cooperating, licensed physicians are authorised to assess suitability and prescribe medical cannabis. Medical history and previous treatment attempts are reviewed before cannabis therapy is initiated. Evaluation includes ensuring guideline‑compliant prior treatment attempts before prescribing cannabis as an alternative or supplement. The platform operates under the medical‑legal standards defined by German regulation for medical treatment (BGB § 630a) when telemedicine is used.
Care pathway
- The patient registers on Nowomed’s portal for a free therapy request and fills out a questionnaire about their health condition.
- The patient uploads relevant medical records or documentation supporting their diagnosis and previous treatment history.
- After document review, the patient books a video (or possibly in-person) initial consultation with a cooperating doctor.
- If the doctor deems cannabinoid therapy suitable, a medical‑cannabis prescription is issued.
- The patient receives follow-up consultations at regular intervals (at least quarterly) to monitor therapy progress, adjust prescriptions if needed, and renew cannabis prescriptions.
